Susan Vogel, Publisher

Susan Vogel has a BA in English from San Francisco State University (summa cum laude) and a law degree from University of California, Hastings College of the Law. In addition, she has studied at the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico (Mexico City), Stanford and the University of Utah. Prior to founding Pince-Nez Press in 1995, she was a partner at Jones, Waldo, Holbrook & McDonough law firm in Salt Lake City, Utah, and an attorney in the San Francisco Bay area. Besides running the publishing company, she volunteers as a Spanish-English interpreter at a free medical clinic and tutors ESL.

Anonymous Publishing Assistant

Anonymous Publishing Assistant is an intelligent college graduate who is willing to work for less than she or he is worth (but more than the inadequate local minimum wage) to gain experience in publishing. (We do not call her an intern in order to justify paying her less.) APA, as we like to call her (or him) normally works another job as a barrista, bringing excellent coffee-making skills to the table (along with one packet of sugar). Unlike at big publishing houses, where she may gain experience in unjamming copy machines, at Pince-Nez Press, the APA may become editor of a book, devise a PR campaign, collect on invoices and process orders. APAs are encouraged to pursue their career objectives while working part-time at PNP. One is now a reporter for a local newspaper.

Our Fabulous Freelancers

Behind the scenes are the talented freelance graphic designers, photographers, editors and proofreaders who make the books beautiful, readable, and accurate. These invaluable people include graphic designers Peter Pigott (Backless and many school guide covers), Paul Browning (Mormon Tabernacle Enquirer cover and page design), Bonnie Caldwell (Slacker Mom cover and page design, God's Brothel cover), and Ana Esmee (cover concept, Dogs and Jello, page layout, Dogs, and new logo). Photographers include Trish Empey (Dog cover). Expert editors/proofreaders include Kim Burgess and Mark Hengesbaugh. (Photo to left of Ana Esmee, Ana Esmee Design, Los Angeles)

Ask Sophia
The majority of books sold in the U.S. are purchased by women. And Chick Lit, well, need we say more...? For these reasons we have retained a bright and hip New York-area young lady, Sophia, to answer your questions regarding writing and publishing for this exciting new market. Just send your questions to pincenez98@yahoo.com, with "Ask Sophia" in the subject line.
